More than 40 students from the commune received support to continue their studies, within the framework of Latin America Power's Me Sumo program, which this year incorporated the creation of an Environmental Committee of Principals to strengthen ecological management in schools.<\/em><\/span><\/i><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n With a ceremony at the facilities of the Adenauer School,<\/em> 46 elementary, middle and high school students received educational scholarships assigned by the Scholarship Program of the renewable energy generator, Latin America Power (LAP).<\/p>\n The beneficiaries belong to nine local establishments \u2013 including Escuela Cumcumyaque, Caren, Volc\u00e1n Llaima, Liceo Los Andes, Adenauer, Escuela 10 de Llaima, San Gabriel, Escuela Molulco and Fundo Molulco \u2013 whose representatives participated in the activity along with community authorities, directors, parents and students.<\/p>\n Since its first version in 2014, LAP's scholarship program has benefited more than 400 students from Melipeuco, through a benefit that has as its main objective to promote education in the area. Last year, the initiative incorporated an environmental pillar, prioritizing students from establishments that actively participate in the Me Sumo program, which brings together more than 80% of the school enrollment in the commune.<\/p>\n In this context, the general manager of LAP, Esteban Moraga said: \"What we have experienced together with the community of Melipeuco with our Me Sumo program is an example of how education and the environment can be integrated to build the future. Last year we took an important step by incorporating an environmental pillar into our scholarships, strengthening the link between academic training and ecological awareness. It fills us with pride to see how these scholarships not only support the studies of children and young people but also inspire the entire commune to grow with a sustainable outlook, in which we want to continue to be an active part.\"<\/p>\n Environmental Committee of Directors - Proyecto Me Sumo <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n On the other hand, the new Environmental Committee of Directors \"Me Sumo\" was also presented, an instance created to strengthen the governance of the program and enhance the participation of the directors of each establishment in coordination with the project's environmental monitors.<\/p>\n In this regard, LAP's Sustainability Manager, Jos\u00e9 Salgado, highlighted the importance of this new committee, assuring: \"The formation of this committee marks a milestone in strengthening our commitment to environmental education. Not only does it consolidate the governance structure of the program, but it also promotes a more active role for principals, who have been key players in the implementation of environmental initiatives within their school communities,\" he said.<\/p>\n Mentes en Verde 2025 <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Likewise, an international milestone was also highlighted at the ceremony, after the Me Sumo program was recognized as a finalist in the \"Minds in Green 2025\" call, organized by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).<\/p>\n The competition received more than 270 proposals from 18 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, of which only 7 projects reached the category of finalists. Este fue construido en el marco del Plan de Reforestaci\u00f3n Comunal impulsado por la Unidad de Medioambiente de Melipeuco, la Corporaci\u00f3n Nacional Forestal (Conaf) y Latin America Power (LAP), a trav\u00e9s de su proyecto \u201cMe Sumo\u201d.<\/span><\/span><\/p> Bajo ese contexto, el jefe de la central Carilafqu\u00e9n Malalcahuello de LAP, Felipe Zamora, coment\u00f3 que, \u201cla ejecuci\u00f3n de este proyecto es un gran paso, ya que con \u00e9l podremos comenzar a trabajar en la implementaci\u00f3n de sistemas de riego similares en los dem\u00e1s colegios que participan en el proyecto. Por otro lado, poder acercar este Fondo de Protecci\u00f3n Ambiental que viene apoyar a la Escuela 10 de Llaima nos llena de orgullo, y ratifica un compromiso que tenemos con la comunidad hace muchos a\u00f1os\u201d.<\/span><\/span><\/p> Hasta la fecha, el Plan de Reforestaci\u00f3n Comunal ha permitido la construcci\u00f3n de 10 invernaderos para la conservaci\u00f3n de plantas nativas en los establecimientos educativos que participan del programa, as\u00ed como la plantaci\u00f3n de 500 \u00e1rboles en diferentes puntos de Melipeuco durante 2024. <\/span><\/span><\/p> Al respecto, el seremi del Medio Ambiente de la regi\u00f3n de la Araucan\u00eda, F\u00e9lix Contreras, coment\u00f3 que, \u201ccomo ministerio nos pone contentos que cada vez m\u00e1s personas est\u00e9n comprendiendo el problema clim\u00e1tico que estamos enfrentado, y que a trav\u00e9s de los recursos disponibles se creen iniciativas como la que esta implementado hoy la Escuela 10 de Llaima\u201d. <\/span><\/span><\/p> La autoridad tambi\u00e9n resalt\u00f3 la importancia de la colaboraci\u00f3n p\u00fablico-privada para la ejecuci\u00f3n de este tipo de proyectos. \u201cQuiero agradecer la contribuci\u00f3n de la empresa LAP y de todo el equipo detr\u00e1s de Me Sumo.
