Students from Melipeuco participated together with Sernapesca, the municipality and Latin America Power in an educational activity of the Me Sumo program, aimed at the protection of the aquatic ecosystems of the commune.

Students from Melipeuco were part of an environmental education day developed on the Chufquén River, aimed at strengthening knowledge and care for the aquatic ecosystems of the commune.

The activity was attended by students from the 10 educational establishments that are part of the Me Sumo program, as well as professionals from the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Service (Sernapesca), officials from the Environment and Climate Change Unit of the Municipality of Melipeuco and representatives of Latin America Power (LAP), headed by its Sustainability Manager. José Salgado.

During the day, Sernapesca professionals monitored the invasive algae Didymo, an instance that allowed children to learn what this pest is, how it spreads and the impacts it generates in rivers and watercourses, reinforcing the importance of its prevention and care for the natural environment.

In this regard, LAP's Sustainability and Environment Manager highlighted the progress that the Me Sumo program has had in Melipeuco and the collaborative work developed in the territory. "This initiative demonstrates the results that can be achieved through a solid public-private partnership, which articulates the educational community, public institutions and private enterprise around common objectives of sustainability and environmental education," he added.

The activity ended with a playful space for the students, who learned and shared with Chilla, a character from the Me Sumo program, and Chungungo, Sernapesca's mascot, reinforcing the messages of environmental care in a close and participatory way.
