The initiative is part of the Communal Reforestation Plan promoted by the municipality, CONAF and Latin America Power (LAP) through the "Me Sumo" project and is financed by the Environmental Protection Fund of the Ministry of the Environment.

In a ceremony held at Escuela 10 de Llaima, the establishment presented its project "NGULEM CO Recycling of rainwater for the irrigation of the school greenhouse", an initiative designed by the school community and postulated by the Center of Parents and Guardians of the establishment, which was also financed through the Environmental Protection Fund granted by the Ministry of the Environment.

The project will be developed for the first time in the commune and seeks to implement a sustainable automatic irrigation system to feed the greenhouse of native plants of School 10 of Llaima.

It was built within the framework of the Communal Reforestation Plan promoted by the Melipeuco Environment Unit, the National Forestry Corporation (Conaf) and Latin America Power (LAP), through its "Me Sumo" project.

To date, the Communal Reforestation Plan has allowed the construction of 10 greenhouses for the conservation of native plants in the educational establishments that participate in the program, as well as the planting of 500 trees in different parts of Melipeuco during 2024.

In this regard, the Seremi of the Environment of the Araucanía region, Félix Contreras, commented that, "as a ministry we are happy that more and more people are understanding the climate problem we are facing, and that through the available resources initiatives such as the one that is implemented today by Escuela 10 de Llaima are created."

The authority also highlighted the importance of public-private collaboration for the execution of this type of project. "I want to thank the contribution of the LAP company and the entire team behind Me Sumo. We hope to continue working together to continue promoting the sustainable development of our region," added Contreras. 

Since 2021 Me Sumo has allowed the realization of different projects that have promoted recycling, communal composting and various activities focused on the environmental education of the inhabitants of Melipeuco.
