LAP concludes Educational Alternation Program that benefited 24 students from Canela

The initiative has been promoted since 2019 by the renewable energy company Latin America Power (LAP) and the Liceo Polivalente Padre José Herde Pohler of the Canela commune, through an agreement that seeks to link knowledge from the technical-professional secondary education system with practical learning in the renewable energy industry.

In a ceremony that included the participation of the mayor of Canela, Bernardo Leyton, members of the Municipal Council of the commune, representatives of the company Latin America Power (LAP), representative of the company Vestas, directors, teachers and students of the Liceo Polivalente Padre José Herde Pohler, the official closing of the fifth version of the Educational Alternation Program (PAE), developed between June and August of this year, took place.

This initiative was promoted by LAP and the management team of the Liceo Técnico Profesional five years ago, with the aim of linking the knowledge of the technical-professional secondary education system with practical learning in the productive area in the renewable energy industry. In this way, in its 2024 edition it benefited 24 third-year students specializing in mechanics from the Padre José Herde Pohler Polyvalent High School.

Along these lines, the Safety and Sustainability Manager of Latin America Power, José Salgado explained that “with this closure we want to thank all the actors who have been part of the program, especially the teachers and students of the establishment. In these years they have allowed us to provide them with tools to develop and perfect their knowledge, technical skills and socio-emotional skills outside of their high school, which better prepare them for the world of work and/or to continue studies in higher education.

Since 2019, the Educational Alternation Program has benefited more than 150 third-year high school students through various guided visits by LAP professionals to the Totoral Wind Farm, and the development of different classes, divided into modules such as Protocols and Standards. Security; Maintenance and Operations in the Wind Farm, and Environment and Sustainability in the park.

In this regard, the mayor of Canela, Bernardo Leyton, stressed that, "from the municipality we want to highlight how important it is for our students to have the possibility of doing their internships in companies where they can ensure that their skills and learning take a real path, and what closer to the world of work for which they are being trained. This is why we thank LAP for the gesture and commitment to education, which we also hope will serve to strengthen these alliances with more companies in the sector.

For his part, the teacher at the Liceo Polivalente Padre José Herde Pohler, Omar Villarroel, referred to his experience with the students. “Since I have attended these classes delivered by the agreement with the students, I have realized how important this initiative is for them. “In this way they can learn more technical and non-everyday things in relation to what they see daily at school.”

Finally, during the ceremony, the official signing of the agreement was carried out, which aimed to legalize the collaboration initiative between the educational establishment, LAP and the Municipality of Canela.
